Creating an intrinsically accessible website and brand for ecology news outlet in Lithuania

Gargždapilis is the brainchild of Jolanta Beniušytė, a writer and acclaimed journalist with a long-cherished dream of sharing her own articles related to nature, ecology, travel, and culture online. Gargždapilis is derived from Gargždai, a city in Lithuania, and "pilis," meaning "castle" in local language. Growing up amidst the serene beauty of hills, valleys, trees, rivers, and the Baltic Sea, Jolanta developed a deep respect for the environment. Therefore, she wants to contribute to ecology and nature conservation through her online journal.

Jolanta reached out to us for help creating a website that accurately represents her as an author and includes her articles, while also being accessible to all visitors. Additionally, she needed a logo for the blog that aligned with her vision. Our challenge was to create a website and visual identity that encompassed all of these requirements.

Logo & Visual Identity

We provided Jolanta with a visual identity package that included a custom logo design, color palette and fonts to establish a cohesive and recognizable brand. The logo embodies a serene and minimalist aesthetic, featuring a stylized icon of a castle resting upon a hill. This elegant design is complemented by a script typeface, adding a sense of warmth, approachability, and personal connection to the overall look and feel.

Website Design

The beautiful website designed by the agency was not only visually appealing but also reflected Jolanta's passion for nature. It was customized to suit her needs, and it included a blog with a filter-by-category functionality, making it easy for visitors to navigate through her content. The website also included a newsletter subscription and contact forms, allowing Jolanta to connect with her readers and build a community.

Web Accessibility

We took extra steps to ensure that the website was accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities. This included an extensive audit to assess accessibility, changes to the website's design to improve accessibility, and the addition of an overlay modal that reminded visitors of the website's accessibility features and provided a link to a feedback form. Furthermore, we created an accessibility statement that included all the relevant information and outlined the website's adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Portrait Photography

We provided photography services that captured Jolanta's warmth and charisma, while showcasing her love for nature. The beautiful portraits were taken in the natural surroundings near the Baltic Sea in Klaipeda, making them a perfect representation of Jolanta's personality and her connection with nature.

By combining website design and photography, we created a cohesive visual identity for Jolanta, making her blog portal a true reflection of her passion for nature and journalism.
